Mesothelioma is described as localized if the cancer is found only on the membrane surface where it originated. It is classified as early (stages 1 or 2) if localized to a single organ surface, usualy the lining of the lungs or kidney. Advanced classification is defined (stages 3 or 4) if it has spread beyond the original membrane surface to other parts of the body.
